Serial Experiments Lain - wikipedia
Serial Experiments Lain is not a conventionally linear story, but "an alternative anime, with modern themes and realization". Themes range from theological to psychological and are dealt with in a number of ways: from classical dialogue to image-only introspection, passing by direct interrogation of imaginary characters.
Yeah confusing I know.. It's not your normal kind of animation. From the beginning and to the end.. it left me confused yet yearning to watch the next episode hoping it would clear my doubts. Most complex anime I've ever watched.. but I shall try to give my understanding of it.
The story basically deals with the definition of reality. You'd never exist if nobody remembers you. Everyone wants to be remembered in some way or another before they die. Some people want to be remembered forever and thus find ways to make themselves immortal. They turn to the "Wired" which resembles the internet, it is a place where information is passed to and fro and connects everybody. Then people start confusing reality with the cyberspace as on the internet.. you can easily make friends and connect with others. You're not lonely anymore there and by being connected with everyone online.. you feel alive and warm.
Hmm.. my darling told me to give some kind of ratings for the animes I watch so.. I'll try~!
Storyline: 4.5/5 It's intriguing, interesting and has lots to think about. I guess I couldn't really give a 5/5 as it was slightly too confusing and the ending was... huh? huh? :S
Art & Animation: 3.5/5 Yeah I know.. the anime was produced in 1998 so don't expect much fancy drawings.. it's abstract an interesting in its own way.
Music: 3/5 The Opening rocks! Ending is good too.. but the overall soundtrack is so-so I felt.
My recommendation.. I personally like this kind of psycho-horror kind of anime.. it's definitely one of its kind. If you're looking for change from the normal anime and loves complexity.. this is highly recommended!
P.S: If anyone knows anime of a similar genre.. do let me know~!
Zombie Loan - wikipedia
Summary:
Michiru Kita is a special girl who possesses Shinigami Eyes, which allows her to see a dark ring around a person's neck. This ring symbolizes the person's impending death; once they are marked to die, a gray ring, which is invisible to normal people, appears around their neck. Over time, the ring gets darker, and once the ring turns completely black, the person dies. Chika Akatsuki and Shito Tachibana, two boys in her class, both have black rings around their necks, but to her surprise, they are not yet dead. It is revealed that after a tragic accident that was supposed to kill them both, the two boys made a deal with a secret loan office called the Zombie-Loan. In return for keeping them alive, the two have to hunt zombies for the loan office. When Michiru gets involved with them, she finds that her life has just become more complicated.
Hmm.. its not bad I guess. I expected more though. Is it me or Zombies are starting to develop new powers? My idea of zombies had always been those slow moving undead that often come in never ending hordes.Yuuta is the Z-Loan office assistant, who has the unique ability to heal. His job mostly consists of data-gathering, medical treatments, answering phones, and making tea. He likes to joke around and often pretends that his hands, which he named Ken Ken and Kon Kon, can talk.
Gosh.. while trying to find more info about Yuuta.. I just found out he's a guy? =.= crap. I shan't bother anymore.. ><
Storyline: 3/5 Oh well.. the storyline isn't that interesting.. it gets better at the end but it turned out to be another of those .. stay tuned for Season 2 .. to be continued =.=. zz
The characters however are the ones that kept me watching.. mainly Yuuta.
Art & Animation: 3/5 No bankai's or clever tactics.. art is pretty good though.
Music: 2.5/5 Nothing too interesting too. =X
My recommendation.. skip this anime.. there are other better action anime around.. unless you're a Getbackers fan.. then maybe this might appeal to you ^^.
Sola - wikipedia
Plot:
Sola's story revolves around Yorito Morimiya, the main protagonist, who is a young boy attending high school. He loves taking pictures of the sky at any time of day and any time of the year. One day, Yorito decides to take a picture of the sunrise overlooking the bay, but is deterred when he meets a strange girl trying to force a vending machine that stole her money to give her what she tried to buy — a can of tomato juice. Yorito helps her with forcing the machine while attempting to strike up conversation with her, despite it being four in the morning. Yorito tells her why he is here, but by the time he has forced the can out of the machine, the girl has mysteriously vanished.
The next day, Yorito goes to visit his older sister Aono in the hospital with his friend Mana and Mana's little sister Koyori. Despite it being Aono's birthday, Yorito leaves soon after to take a photograph of the setting sun near an old church on the roof of the hospital. That night, Yorito leaves to buy groceries when it begins to rain and stops on the way home to wait for the rain to stop; while waiting, he runs into the strange girl he met from yesterday again. They talk longer this time and Yorito finally learns her name — Matsuri ShihÅ. A few days later, Yorito goes looking for the girl in the old church and finds a man wielding a sword before Matsuri.
After a display of Matsuri's astounding powers, Yorito discovers that she is in fact a creature known as a "Calamity of the Night", who has lived for centuries. She is being chased by Takeshi who intends to kill her, but Yorito tries to protect her by bringing her back to his home which is when Yorito asks her to stay with him for the time being.
A "Calamity of the Night", otherwise known as a Yaka is a supernatural being in the Sola story. Yaka have many supernatural powers, such as: a strong physical ability, fast regeneration, and never aging body, among other powers. A Yaka is hurt by direct exposure to sunlight, but the wound can be healed in time if the exposure is not excessive; a Yaka is otherwise immortal unless exposed to too much sunlight or has received fatal wounds. Matsuri explains that a Yaka is the embodiment of human agony and pain and that such creatures are meant to always be alone.
Storyline: 4/5 Romance, comedy.. and action from time to time.. makes it an overall good anime! The ending is great.. one of the best endings I've seen. It's all heartwarming and you know everything is happily ever after =] =].. even after all the sad drama.Art & Animation: 5/5 The art is superb! espcially the raindrops effects in the Opening I thought was damn cool. Characters are all memorable and nicely drawn. Battle scenes were great too.. nothing to complain about ^^.
Music: 4/5 Opening and endings were not bad ^^. Soundtrack was pretty decent too =).
My recommendation.. Its all nice! Everything about the anime fits together nicely. I'd recommend this to anyone. All anime should maintain this standard ^^. Those who like Chobits will like this too.
Next up.. Heroic Age and maybe Darker than Black or Burst Angel ^^.
Revenge!!! hahaha..
P.S: I'm starting to think my anime posts are too wordy.. should I skip the summary/plots and just paste links.. and maybe u guys can read for yourself if you wanna know more? Hmm.. I'm an amateur at reviewing anime.. bear with me ><
